Synopsis:
TEKTITE is an hour-long action-drama that is an alternate history inspired by NASA’s first all-female mission. The 1970s-set series follows five trailblazing female aquanauts along with their male colleagues and families on land. As the women live in an isolated underwater habitat in the US Virgin Islands, they confront explosive interpersonal conflict and must prove to NASA that they can handle the life-and-death situations of their mission. Every episode, the Aquanauts push the boundaries of scientific discovery in the depths of the ocean while being studied by the men on land. Throughout the series, the women uncover dark secrets about the US and Soviet Aquatic Programs and each other. TEKTITE explores conflicts between the women and nature, the women and each other, and of course, the women and their male colleagues within the geopolitical context of the Cold War. While TEKTITE begins with NASA’s first all-female underwater mission it ends with America’s first woman in space at the dawn of a new decade, the 1980s. Ultimately, the Tektite women break the glass ceiling on earth and beyond.
