Synopsis:
Marie Tharp started her career as a human calculator for Lamont Geological Laboratory. It was there that she met Bruce Heezen, a young researcher who became her life-long collaborator and love interest. Her mapping work pointed towards a drift of the continents, a hypothesis widely discredited in the 50s, thus no one believed or supported her. But she persisted. Later on, the hypothesis was proven correct (partly thanks to the submarine explorer Jean Jacques Cousteau), but as a women in a male dominated world, Marie’s contribution went into oblivion yet again. As she pursued mapping the oceanic basin of the entire world, her relationship with Bruce turned to another direction.
