Synopsis 

Nick Francis is a farm worker with a deep connection to the land he tends but he also manages to be an accidental outsider in his own rural hometown. The small town prejudices that have been holding him down his whole life finally come to a head as he fights for custody of his daughter and confronts his abusive boss. During this upheaval, Nick meets Emily Philips, an out-of-town biologist eager to understand the local agricultural methods. She discovers that Nick is making changes at work that benefit the land and tries to convince him to help her educate the locals to abandon detrimental farming practices. Nick assures Emily he is not that man for the job. Nick fails to get custody of his daughter and barely manages to do the right thing when his boss’s life is threatened by an out-of-control field burn.
