Kandace James is a poet-playwright whose plays always feel like coming home. She was awarded The Hip-Hop Theatre Creator Award, The Rosa Parks Playwriting Award, and The Darrell Ayers National Playwriting Award. She was a National Finalist for the John Cauble Award for Outstanding Short Play at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Nationals. Her screenplay received the $25,000 First Place Award in the 2022 Alfred P. Sloan Script Competition. James was a 2023 Core Apprentice, a 2024 MacDowell Fellow, and a 2025 Vermont Studio Center Fellow.
