Synopsis

Based on real events, Solvay tells the story of Niels and Margrethe Bohr arriving in Brussels for the 1927 Solvay Conference—a meeting of the greatest minds in science. They are outsiders and minnows compared to the likes of Albert Einstein and Marie Curie, but they are armed with an idea: Quantum Theory. It tears to shred everything the physics establishment holds sacrosanct and kicks off a debate with Einstein about the very nature of reality. The debate, over the space of one weekend, is intense and pushes Niels and Margrethe’s relationship to a breaking point. It reveals things not just about the nature of reality, but about themselves, and their relationship as a love triangle of sorts forms between Niels, Margrethe and Einstein.
